LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's water polo team (4-12) heads to San Diego State for the Aztec Invitational on March 13-14. On Saturday, the Tritons face Wagner (7-8) at 8:00 a.m. and Maryland (8-5) at 1:00 p.m. On Sunday, UCSD will square off against No. 18 Princeton (7-3) at 8:00 a.m. followed by a 1:00 p.m. match-up against Marist (4-7). UCSD has only faced Marist this season, an 8-4 win at the Triton Invitational on February 6. This will be UCSD's last time in action before taking a week off for final exams. The Tritons return to Canyonview to face Hawaii at 6:00 p.m. on March 25.
UCSD is 2-0 all-time against Wagner, with the last outing on February 3, 2007, an 11-5 UCSD win.
Last week Wagner won 3-of-4 at the Cal Lutheran Tournament. Wagner defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 5-2, Cal Lutheran 8-7 and Whittier 15-12. Wagner's loss came against No. 16 Pacific by a 14-11 score.
Wagner is led by Chelsea Beck and Laura Vanderbent with 14 goals apiece. Beck and Molly Robinson lead the team with 10 assists apiece. In goal, Kelsey Rodgers has 141 saves and an 8.64 goals against average.
UCSD is 6-1 all-time against the Terrapins. Maryland has notable wins over Sonoma State and Long Beach State. Last week Maryland played in the Elite Eight Tournament in Bloomington, IN. Maryland defeated Harvard 13-10, but lost to Hartwick 11-8 and Indiana 9-4.
The Terrapins are led by Shannon Simerly with 18 goals while Allison Campbell has scored 16 times. Campbell leads the team with 13 assists. Shelby Reyes has started 11-of-12 games in goal with 48 saves.
UCSD is 3-5 all-time against Princeton. Last week the Tigers were also at the Elite Eight Tournament and defeated Harvard 12-6 and No. 17 Brown 7-5. Princeton suffered a 10-8 loss to No. 11 Hartwick.
Princeton is led by Phoebe Chamio with 23 goals while Lauren Brunner has scored 19 times. Helen Meigs has a team-high 23 assists and Brittany Zwirner has a team-high 11 steals. In goal, Kristen Ward has 86 saves and Grace du Pont has added 18 saves.
The Tritons are 4-0 all-time against Marist. This season, Marist has wins over Redlands, Gannon, Maryland and Harvard.
The Red Foxes are led by Samantha Swartz with 17 goals while Angie Rampton has scored 13 goals. Rampton is the team leader with 17 assists. Jessica Getchius has recorded 94 saves and an 8.18 goals against average.
The Tritons are looking to build on their two-match winning streak after recording a Western Water Polo Association win against Santa Clara last week. In UCSD's 10-5 win, Stephanie Heinrich scored four goals to pace UCSD. Hanalei Crowell and Kirsten Bates scored two each, while Audra Bloom and Kim McComas also scored.
UCSD is led by Bates with 24 goals while Heinrich has scored 23 times. Felicia Orozco is the team leader with 16 assists and Audra Bloom has a team-high 22 steals. Markayla Quane has recorded 153 saves in 16 games.
