Tritons Open CCAA Play This Week

Unable to play two scheduled matches last week because of rain, the UC San Diego women's tennis team will get a second chance to start its 2010 season with a road match against Cal State San Bernardino set for Tuesday and a home contest with Sonoma State on Friday. The Tritons, holding streaks of 59 straight wins over California Collegiate Athletic Association opponents and six-consecutive undefeated seasons in conference play, look to continue their league dominance with CCAA action starting this week. Rain Stops Match Short; UC San Diego and Pomona Pitzer Remain 0-0

The UC San Diego women's tennis team posted a doubles sweep against the Pomona Pitzer Sagehens Friday afternoon but due to rain, the two squads didn't finish the match and will maintain their respective 0-0 records. Juniors Natalie Varnay and Taskeen Bains earned an 8-3 victory over Sagehens' freshmen Jaime Solomon and Kara Wang at the No. 1 doubles position. Juniors Valerie Tang and Cindy Dao played out of the No. 2 spot for the Tritons, earning a hard-fought 9-8 win over Nicole Holsted and Paige Wolstencroft after being down 5-2.
