Invitational's Final Two Days Canceled Due to Rain; UC San Diego Remains 1-1

The UC San Diego softball team and the rest of the Best of the West Invitational field waited out the rainy weather in Turlock but the field conditions proved to be too poor to play as the final two days of the tournament, Saturday and Sunday, were canceled. The Tritons will host Chico State in a four-game series starting Friday, marking the opening of UCSD's new state-of-the-art softball facility and the start of California Collegiate Athletic Association play. Tritons Finish Opening Day at 1-1; Showdown with Cal St. Monterey Bay Set for Saturday

The UC San Diego softball team walked away from 2010 opening day with a 1-1 record, after close games with Central Washington and Chico State to start the Best of the West Invitational. The Tritons will continue action at the three-day tournament with a 1 p.m. contest Saturday against California Collegiate Athletic Association rival Cal St. Monterey Bay. On Friday afternoon in a season-opening 2-0 win against CWU, sophomore Camille Gaito threw seven shutout innings in a dazzling pitching performance.
