Van Arsdale Retires, Tritons Hire Nate Garcia as New Head Coach for Cross Country
UC San Diego Director of Athletics Earl W. Edwards announced Tuesday afternoon that Nate Garcia has been hired as the new men's and women's cross country head coach for the 2007 season. He replaces Ted Van Arsdale who announced his retirement from coaching earlier this morning after spending the last 15 years as the head coach of the Triton cross country programs. Garcia assumes the helm of the program for which he has been associated with for 10 seasons, the first five of which were as a student-athlete. The last five years have been spent as an assistant coach with both the cross country and track & field programs at UCSD. || CONTINUE
Triton Women Finish 3rd, Men 5th at NCAA D-II West Regional on Saturday
The UC San Diego women's cross country team placed third while the men finished fifth at the NCAA Division II Cross Country West Regional on Saturday at the Lake Oroville Forebay Aquatics Center. The regional was hosted by Chico State who captured the men's title while the Cal State L.A. won a tightly contest women's race. The top four women's team finishers advance on to the NCAA National Championships in two weeks, while only the top three men's teams advance on. The NCAA D-II National Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, November 18 in Pensacola, Fla., as part of the NCAA D-II Championship Festival. || CONTINUE
