Wendy Taylor May joined the UC San Diego Athletics Department in 2000. After spending her first five years as an associate director, Taylor May was promoted to Senior Associate Director in 2005. In 2015, she was elevated to Deputy Director of Athletics. Taylor May also serves as UC San Diego's Senior Woman Administrator.
Taylor May’s areas of responsibilities include capital projects, fiscal and strategic planning, risk management, communications, personnel management and student-athlete welfare.
She provides direct oversight of the business operations staff, compliance and student services staff, communications staff, equipment operations staff and office administrative staff as well as operations, staff and management of the new Alex G. Spanos Athletic Performance Center.
Additionally, Taylor May has had direct sport supervision of up to 13 teams at one time during her tenure at UC San Diego. Currently, she is the sport supervisor for men's and women's water polo, men's and women's volleyball, baseball and oversees the operations of the Coggeshall Boathouse on Mission Bay.
In 2015, Taylor May was selected to serve on UC San Diego's Chancellor's Advisory Committee on the Status of Women, and was named co-chair for the 2016-17 year. Taylor May was also a member of the Board of Stewards for the Intercollegiate Rowing Association from 2013-16.
Taylor May served on the DII Management Council (2006-12) and was a member of the NCAA DII Committee on Infractions (2007-12), serving as chair from 2008-11. She has also been a member of several other NCAA committees, including the Research Committee (2003-05), Nominating Committee (2006-12) and Fencing Committee (2004-06, Chair 2005-06). She was also on the NAAC Board of Directors (2004-10).
She was honored in 2011 as recipient of the Women Leaders in College Sports (formerly NACWAA) Administrator of the Year award for NCAA Division II.
Before coming to UC San Diego, Taylor May was the Associate Athletics Director/SWA at Virginia Commonwealth University from 1996-2000. While at VCU, she served as the Tournament Manager for the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball East Regional, as well as having sport supervision duties and handling all aspects of the D-I institution's compliance and life skills programs.
Prior to her move to VCU, Taylor May was an Assistant Commissioner with the Big South Conference, where she handled the conference compliance program for the 10 Division I member institutions, as well as overseeing the management of several conference championships. She has also worked at Chicago State University and the University of Richmond.
Taylor May earned a bachelor's degree in behavioral neuroscience from Lehigh University, where she was a four-year member of the women's basketball team. She then went on to complete her master's in sport management at the University of Richmond.
She is married to Mike May, Senior Associate Athletic Director of Communications and Media Relations at San Diego State University.
