After an immensely successful playing career at UC San Diego, Chelsea Carlisle was named an assistant coach with the women's basketball program in June of 2012 and elevated to associate head coach in September of 2016.
Carlisle was a WBCA Thirty Under 30 honoree in 2017.
In 2016-17, Carlisle was promoted to associate head coach in September. She went on to help lead UCSD to a 23-7 overall and 17-3 CCAA record. After taking its fifth and second-consecutive league title, UCSD advanced to the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament title match and was defeated by Cal State East Bay. The Tritons traveled to Anchorage, Alaska and fell to Simon Fraser in the first round of the NCAA West Regional. Heidi VanDerveer was honored as CCAA Coach of the Year and Dalayna Sampton was dubbed CCAA Newcomer of the Year.
The 2015-16 season saw the Tritons go 26-5 overall and 18-2 in the CCAA. They won their fourth conference regular season title and advanced to the West Region championship game. Heidi VanDerveer was tabbed the conference's Coach of the Year, while Farrah Shokoor earned CCAA Player of the Year as well as All-America honors.
UCSD ended the 2014-15 campaign with an 18-10 record overall and 16-6 in the conference, finishing fourth in the CCAA. Farrah Shokoor earned All-CCAA First Team honors while Miranda Seto and McKennan Bertsch were named honorable mentions. In addition, Shokoor was honored with a spot on the Daktronics All-West Region Second Team.
In 2013-14, UCSD posted a 16-11 overall record and placed fifth in the CCAA with a 13-9 conference record. Miranda Seto and Erin Dautremont earned All-CCAA accolades.
In Carlisle's first season as an assistant, in 2012-13, the Tritons posted a 22-11 overall record and placed second in the CCAA with a 17-5 mark. UCSD won its first-ever CCAA Tournament title and qualified for NCAA postseason play for the eighth time since joining the NCAA Division II ranks in 2000.
Daisy Feder was named the CCAA's Most Valuable Player, while Erin Dautremont and Emily Osga joined her as league first team selections. Feder also earned Daktronics All-West Region First Team accolades.
Carlisle assumed a spot on the bench after guiding the Tritons to an overall record of 30-3, a No. 1 national ranking and an appearance in the NCAA West Regional Championship game as a senior during the 2011-12 season.
A four-year starter from 2008-12, Carlisle led the Tritons to three CCAA titles and three NCAA Championship appearances during her time with the program. She wrapped up her career with averages of 16.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.2 steals in 118 games at UC San Diego.
One of the best players the program has ever seen, Carlisle graduated as UCSD's all-time career leader in assists (575), while ranking second in both points (1,950) and steals (262). She also set the program's single game scoring mark after erupting for 46 points against Grand Canyon at the Disney Tip-Off Classic in November of 2010.
A three-time All-CCAA First Team selection, Carlisle was named the conference's Most Valuable Player as a sophomore in 2009-10 and again as a senior in 2011-12. She earned WBCA All-America accolades in each of her final three seasons as a Triton, becoming the first three-time All-American in program history.
Carlisle was also named the Daktronics West Region Player of the Year on two occasions during her career.
The former Oaks Christian High School product led UCSD to a banner season in 2011-12 as the Tritons won their first 26 games and went on to finish with a school-record 30 victories overall. UCSD established the best mark in the history of the CCAA at 21-1, earned the program's first-ever No. 1 national ranking and claimed the top seed in the NCAA Division II West Regional.
Carlisle averaged 16.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 2.6 steals per game and was named the CCAA MVP after leading the league in scoring, assists and steals during the regular season.
A native of Agoura Hills, Carlisle graduated from UC San Diego's Sixth College in 2012 with a degree in communication.
