Five-time national champion Daniel Perdew is in his sixth season on the University of California San Diego swimming and diving coaching staff in 2016-17, having returned to his alma mater in September of 2011. He was promoted to the post of top assistant in May of 2013. On July 10, 2014, Perdew was named the men's interim head coach, and on June 1, 2015, took permanent reins of the program he once starred for. In his third campaign in charge in 2016-17, he has also assumed interim head coach duties for the Triton women, with Corrie Falcon on maternity leave.
The UC San Diego men and women are both coming off of an eighth consecutive Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference (PCSC) championship in 2015-16. Perdew was named the PCSC Men's Coach of the Meet, and later the PCSC Men's Coach of the Year, both for the first time.
In his first year on the staff, Perdew helped guide UCSD to a runner-up finish on the men's side and a third-place showing on the women's at the 2012 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships in Mansfield, Texas. The Triton women repeated that effort in 2013, while the men were seventh.
Perdew has aided in the development of four individual national champions (five titles) during his time on deck, while both the men and women have extended their PCSC dominations.
One of the top NCAA Division II sprinters in history, Perdew competed for the Tritons from 2006-10. As a senior, he won national titles in the 50 free and 100 free, marking the third time he took the crown in the 100. Perdew was also victorious in the 50 free at the 2008 national meet. He still holds individual school marks in both events, and is a part of two other relay records.
The former team captain served on the Triton Athletes' Council (TAC) Executive Board from 2007-09. In 2009 and 2010, he coached at UCSD's summer swim camps, and was a member of the Triton strength and conditioning staff after graduation.
Perdew has previously been a technical recruiter, responsible for screening and processing candidates in the information technology (IT) field, and has also spent time as a personal trainer, providing client-specific instruction and diet recommendations.
Perdew, a La Verne native out of Damien High School, earned a pair of bachelor's degrees from UC San Diego in 2010, with one in management science and the other in psychology.
