Jasmine Chu was named sports dietitian at UC San Diego in September 2017.
Chu brings several years of nutrition-related consulting experience to campus, previously serving as sport dietitian for USA Volleyball (2013-16). During this time, Chu supported Team USA athletes in optimizing performance through supplying educational materials, body composition assessments, supplement recommendations, sweat-rate testing, menu planning and the preparation of recovery foods. She also collaborated with the USOC Sport Nutrition staff to develop fact sheets, white papers, weekly recipes and news articles.
In addition, Chu spent time as sports dietitian consultant for Berlin Recycling Volleys sports club in Berlin, Germany (2016). She provided sport nutrition services for professional volleyball athletes through assessment of body composition, individual meal planning and one-on-one counseling sessions.
A native of San Diego, Chu received a bachelor’s degree in geography/environmental studies and psychology at UCLA in 2006, where she was on the Dean’s Honors List. She later earned a master’s degree in human nutrition at the University of Alabama in 2014 and was on the President’s List.
