Claire Pointer was named an assistant athletic trainer at UC San Diego in July 2017, working specifically with the women’s soccer, women’s basketball and men’s and women’s fencing programs.
Pointer arrived at UC San Diego from Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va., from 2015-17, where she served as a graduate assistant.
A native of Madison, Wisc., Pointer earned her bachelor’s of science degree in athletic training at the University of Wisconsin before obtaining a master’s of science in post professional athletic training at Old Dominion University in 2017.
Pointer is a published writer in the Journal of Athletic Training, and has a research focus in knee injuries as well as the Landing Error Scoring System (LESS). She is a member of the National Athletic Training Association (NATA), Professional Soccer Athletic Trainer’s Society (PSATS) and is a Graston Technique provider.
