WARREN MARCHES ON WITH KNOCKOUT TRIUMPH

LA JOLLA, Calif. - Buoyed by freshman Matt Lenahan's Saturday night win in the men's competition, Warren College snagged its second Spirit Night category triumph by finishing first by a wide margin in the Knockout Tournament. Saturday at RIMAC, Lenahan edged Revelle's Thomas Crutchley in the men's division while Revelle's Maria Cambero returned the favor by outlasting Warren's Jennifer Cheng in the women's division.  The performances of Cambero and Crutchley pulled Revelle into a second place tie with Muir in the overall Knockout standings. With two of the eight Spirit Night 2010 contests in the books, Warren finds itself 3.5 pts. ahead of second place Muir which is half a point up on third place Roosevelt and one ahead of Revelle, currently sitting fourth. Next up is the Thursday, Jan. 28 basketball doubleheader vs. Cal Poly Pomona followed by the Spirit Night Rally, Friday, Jan. 29, at noon in the Price Center. The latter will include the annual basketball body-painting competition.

WARREN MAINTAINS "KNOCKOUT" LEAD

LA JOLLA, Calif. - With a pair of strong finishes in Thursday night's first two basketball knockout rounds-college staff & college council competitions-Warren College built on the lead it established by winning Sunday's swim relay...With Jeff Hill snagging second in the college staff event and Matt Lewis taking third in the college council clash, Warren ended the night with 15 points in the Knockout competition, two up on second place Muir and four ahead of surging Roosevelt...Muir's Brian Dooley outlasted Hill in a marathon staff battle while ERC's Allison Dea took a hard-fought decision from Sixth's Jeremy Jackson in the match-up between college council representatives...The Knockout competition will be concluded Saturday when the male and female divisions square off at  halftime of the UCSD Women's game against San Francisco State.

WARREN TAKES SWIM RELAY

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The first of the five "Knockout" category events went to Warren College Sunday as the foursome of Christine Chon, Kelly Jabbora, Kevin Hon and Matthew Hendricks nipped Muir College to winning the 200 freestyle swim relay at Canyonview Pool...It was Hendricks' powerful anchor leg that pushed Warren to the narrow victory...Following Muir in order were Revelle, Marshall, Sixth and Roosevelt...The race was held in conjunction with a three-team UCSD-hosted intercollegiate swim meet... "I was really proud of the effort our team put out and it was fun to be out there supporting the Triton swimming and diving team," said Commission of Warren Spirit (COWS) member P.J. Loury...Despite seeing her team come up short, Roosevelt's Lauren Ho was glad she took the plunge.  "Honestly, I wasn't too excited when my friend volunteered me to wake up early to jump in a cold pool on what is usually my sleep-in Sunday morning, but I am so glad she did. It was an awesome experience meeting other ERC students and repping ERC spirit!"

TRITON JAM ATTENDANCE TITLE GOES TO WARREN

LA JOLLA, Calif. - Warren College, revitalized after finishing sixth in last year's Spirit Night competition, grabbed the early lead in 2010 by winning the Triton Jam attendance competition Tuesday night...Warren and Roosevelt College were a clear 1-2 followed by Muir, Revelle, Marshall and Sixth...Among the individual winners at Triton Jam were Jay Tung of Muir College, who snagged two free airline tickets courtesy of Jet Blue in the elimination free throw contest, Ebrahim Kassamali of Warren College, who left with free books for the quarter (donated by the UCSD Bookstore) in the halfcourt shot competition, and Chris Barton of Sixth College who paired with UCSD Women's Basketball star Chelsea Carlisle in the Team Shootout (sponsored by UCSD Transportation & Parking) and walked away with a brand new Raleigh mountain bike.
