SAN RAMON, Calif. - University of California San Diego’s Claudia Cox and Savanna Forry have been named California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women's Track Athlete and Field Athlete of the Week, respectively, for the week of Feb. 21-Feb. 27. The conference made the announcement Tuesday.
In UC San Diego's first meet of the season, Forry and Cox collected three individual first-place finishes between them, helping the Tritons win the Mangrum Invitational in San Marcos last Saturday with 77 points.
Forry earned two individual wins in the high jump and hammer throw. The senior cleared 5'8.75" in the high jump to earn a strong NCAA provisional mark that should send her to a third consecutive NCAA Championships in May. The Porter Ranch native also collected top honors with a 148'3" mark in the hammer.
As a true freshman, Cox took home first place in the 400-meter hurdles in her first collegiate meet. Her winning time of 1:02.38 earned her an NCAA provisional mark.
This is the first weekly honor for both Forry and Cox.
UCSD hosts the All-UC Challenge this Saturday, March 4, starting at 1 p.m. inside Triton Track & Field Stadium on North Campus in La Jolla.
