Tritons Ink Pair of High School Tennis Standouts to National Letters of Intent

LA JOLLA, Calif. - UC San Diego men's tennis head coach Eric Steidlmayer signed two southern California high school standouts to National Letters of Intent last week during the NCAAS early signing period. Chapman Chan of Agoura High School and Jake Fellow of Poway High School will play for the Tritons during the 2008-09 season.

"Jake and Chapman are great additions to our program," said Steidlmayer, who in currently in his 10th year at the helm of the men's tennis program at his alma mater. "Both have great experience from competition in the junior ranks of southern California and have a very strong desire to improve their tennis skills while also possessing great strength of character. We are very fortunate that they decided to attend UCSD and will prove to be integral members of our squad."

Chan, who plays for coach Amir Marandy at Agoura H.S., has posted a 40-6 singles record thus far in his high school career. He is a three-time First Team All-Miramonte League honoree. He plans on majoring in Electrical Engineering at UCSD and enjoys music and playing the piano in his spare time.

Fellow has notched a 78-16 singles record over the last two years at Poway H.S., playing for head coach Andy Surber. He was ranked in the top-200 nationally and in the top-30 in southern California in the Boys 16's category. Fellow does have ties to the La Jolla campus as his father, Ed, did four years of residency in Family Medicine at UCSD. He plans on majoring in Economics and enjoys wakeboarding and snowboarding in his spare time.

Coach Steidlmayer's current squad will begin the Spring portion of its 2007-08 season on February 1st with a 2 p.m. match at UC Riverside. The Tritons' first home home match of the season will come against Cal Poly Pomona at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13.
