LONG BEACH, Calif. ? The UC San Diego swimming and diving teams are off to strong starts after the first day of the Pacific Coast Swimming Conference Championships in Long Beach. The UCSD men's 200 medley relay team won first-place honors while the 800 free relay team took second-place. On the women's side, UCSD took first-place in the 800 free relay, while the 200 medley relay team finished in second-place. The Tritons won championships on both sides and are looking to repeat over the course of the four-day conference championships.
The men's 200 medley relay team of Steven Hardy, Evan Hsiao, Dan Perdew and Todd Langland won with a time of 1:31.81. The 800 free relay team of Knief Lohse, Greg Goodell, Ben Farrington and Langland finished second with a time of 6:50.02.
On the women's side, the 800 free relay team of Aubrey Panis, Shannon Simonds, Ashtyn Douglas and Anju Shimura took top honors with a time of 7:34.57, more than six seconds faster than second-place Loyola Marymount. In the 200 medley relay, it was LMU taking first-place with the Tritons earning runner-up. The team of Panis, Kendall Bohn, Jennifer Sims and Erinn Deters recorded a time of 1:46.29.
