LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The 17th-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team (2-1) hosts the Triton Invitational on September 4-6 in RIMAC Arena. Other participating teams include No. 1 Cal State San Bernardino (3-0), Cal State L.A. (3-0), Cal State Dominguez Hills (0-3), Seattle Pacific (1-3), No. 24 BYU-Hawaii (2-2), Lynn (2-2) and Notre Dame de Namur (0-4). The Tritons begin the Invitational with a game against the Argonauts with a 6:30 p.m. first serve on Thursday. Last week the Tritons battled with then top-ranked Concordia St. Paul, before falling in four sets. UCSD rebounded to defeat No. 15 Lewis and Shippensburg, at the Coyote Classic. Karen Reis was named to the all-tournament team.

Notre Dame de Namur dropped four games in Rohnert Park last week. The Argonauts lost to Sonoma State (25-15, 25-19, 25-15), Chico State (25-22, 22-25, 25-17, 25-17), Cal State Stanislaus (25-20, 23-25, 15-25, 25-23, 15-13) and San Francisco State (21-25, 29-27, 25-19, 33-31).
Last week Lynn went 2-2, losing to No. 12 Southwest Minnesota State and California (PA) and defeating Dowling and Alderson-Broaddus.
BYU-Hawaii defeated Nebraska-Kearney and Embry Riddle, while losing to Cal Poly Pomona and Cal Baptist.
Seattle Pacific was also at the Seawolf Spike Invitational in Rohnert Park. SPU lost to San Francisco State in five sets, and defeated Cal State Stanislaus in four sets. On the second day, SPU dropped games to Sonoma State and Chico State.
Last week UCSD came up short in hoping to upset the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, losing to Concordia St. Paul 25-22, 26-28, 29-27, 25-12. Rebecca Bailey had 12 kills and nine digs while Sylvia Schmidt added 11 kills and five blocks. Roxanne Brunsting had 20 digs and Janessa Werhane had three aces.
In the 21-25, 25-17, 25-13, 25-20 win over No. 15 Lewis, Bailey went over 1000 career kills with 15, and Schmidt added 10. Katie Condon added nine kills and Elaine Chen had a double-double with 39 assists and 10 digs. Cara Simonsen had a team-high seven blocks. Reis had eight kills on .421 hitting, to go along with eight digs, six blocks and three aces.
Against Shippensburg, the Tritons won 25-17, 25-12, 21-25, 26-24. The Tritons were able to win the match, resting their top players in Bailey and Schmidt. Kimberly Carpenter led UCSD with 11 kills while Condon added 10 kills. Kacey Martinez had 21 assists to go along with six digs and three kills. Brunsting led the way with 16 digs. Reis had five of UCSD's 15 aces in the game.
