WALNUT CREEK, Calif. ? Sylvia Schmidt of the 12th-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team has been named the Molten California Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Volleyball Player of the week for Sept. 22-28.  Schmidt helped lead the Tritons to two, five-set victories over ranked opponents last week, including a win over No. 1 Cal State San Bernardino. 

On Friday night, the 5-foor-11 middle blocker had 11 kills, three aces and three digs, while hitting at a .375 clip.  Three of her kills came in the decisive fifth set.  The following night against No. 20 Cal Poly Pomona, Schmidt had a match-high 18 kills on .410 hitting, with three aces, three digs and five blocks.  For the week, Schmidt averaged 2.90 kills per set, .60 aces per set, .60 digs per set and .60 blocks per set while hitting at a .397 clip.
