No. 13 UC San Diego Opens Season With Two Victories At The Wildcat Open

No. 15 UCSD Wraps Up First-Half Of Conference Slate; Hosts SSU and HSU

LA JOLLA, Calif.  ? The 15th-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team (12-3, 6-2 California Collegiate Athletic Association) wraps up the first-half of the conference season this week.  The Tritons host Sonoma State (14-3, 6-2 CCAA) on Friday, October 10.  UCSD returns to the court on Saturday night to take on Humboldt State (6-9, 4-4 CCAA).  Both matches begin at 7:00 p.m. in RIMAC Arena.  The Tritons lead the all-time series with SSU 17-4, with the Seawolves winning two of the last six meetings.  UCSD is 7-0 all-time against the Lumberjacks. 

 

Sonoma State is had its school-record 10 match winning streak snapped last week when it lost in four sets to Cal Poly Pomona.

 

SSU is led by Kristy Sather with 3.34 kills per set on .254 hitting.  Marianne Fox is next on the team with 2.32 kills per set, while Rikki Buckshnis has 1.72 kills per set and team-high .97 blocks per set.  Taylor Krenwinkel leads SSU with 4.61 digs per set.  Linsday Brown is the setter with 9.09 assists per set.  Kelsey Dall has a team-high 22 service aces.

 

The Seawolves won their first seven conference matches including a 3-2 win at Chico State and a sweep at home against Cal State L.A.

 

Humboldt State's big win in the first-half of the year came at home against Cal State L.A.  The ?Jacks enter the week on a three match losing streak, losing to San Francisco State, Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino. 

 

HSU is led by Lynsey Adams with 2.86 kills per set while Joliann Arzadon averages 2.50 kills per set.  Liz Shannon averages 6.90 assists per set and Dani Nelson has a team-high 4.16 digs per set.  Toni Kroeker leads the team with 1.10 blocks per set.

 

Last week the Tritons split two CCAA road matches.  UCSD lost a five-set match to Chico State despite a season-high of 20 kills from Rebecca Bailey.  The following night, the Tritons pulled out a four-set victory over Cal State Stanislaus.  This time it was Sylvia Schmidt with a season-high 20 kills against the Warriors.
