? The UC San Diego swimming and diving team began its 2008-09 season with
the annual Blue vs. Gold Exhibition meet Saturday morning at Canyonview
Pool. The Tritons split their men's and women's teams into two squads
apiece, with the Gold squad emerging victorious with a 131-91 margin
for the men's squad and a final score of 131-113 for the women.
Steven Hardy led the way with three wins for the Gold team, while Sam
Duimovich and Dan Perdew added two victories apiece for Gold. On the
women's side, Kendall Bohn and Shea Kopp each led the Gold team with
two wins, while Karla Holman and Alexandra Henley each won two events
on the Blue side. The Tritons will next be in action with the Alumni
Meet on October 18 at 9:00 a.m.
Bohn won the 50 breast (31.66)
and 150 breast (1:45.24), while Shea Kopp won the 50 back (29.15) and 50 free
(25.15) Holman and Henley matched the
dual victories, with Holman winning in the 150 fly (1:37.16) and 50 fly (27.96)
and Henley winning the 150 back (1:39.44) and 300 IM (3:27.47) events. Also winning events on the day was Kailey
Makuta in the 800 free (8:50.51), Anju Shimura in the 200 free (1:57.15),
Shannon Simonds in the 400 free (4:16.02), and Aubrey Panis in the 100 free
(55.32).
On the men's side, Hardy
repeated his Blue vs. Gold performance from last year, again winning the 50
back (25.40), 150 back (1:29.91) and the 300 IM (3:10.68). Perdew's victories came in the 50 free
(21.87) and 50 fly (24.55), while Duimovich won in the 200 free (1:49.66) and
400 free (3:56.75). Other winning times
from the Gold side were Michael Lorch in the 150 fly (1:36.60) and Todd
Langland in the 100 free (48.61). On the
Blue team, Kyle Begovich won the 800 free (8:09.89), Brandon Maryatt won the 50
breast (24.90), and Elden Carpenter came out on top in the 150 breast
(1:38.50).
