WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – UC San Diego sophomore
Bre Schofield was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Female Runner of the Week, it was announced Monday by the conference office. Schofield paced UCSD in the women's 5k Invitational at the Asics/UC Irvine Invitational on Saturday, finishing fifth overall in a field of 149 runners.
Competing against a field that featured several Division I schools, the Carlsbad, Calif. native clocked in with a time of 17:45.00, helping the Tritons to an eighth place finish as a team.
Schofield has now been UCSD's top finisher in each of the team's last nine events, dating back to last season. She won UCSD's season opener on August 29, breaking the tape with a time of 15:12.2 in the 2.5 mile run to lead the Tritons to a team victory over Point Loma Nazarene, Sonoma State, Cerritos College, and San Diego Christian.
This is Schofield's second career Runner of the Week award. She took home the honor after finishing seventh at the San Diego State Aztec Invitational last season.
