No. 13 UC San Diego Hosts No. 5 Loyola Marymount Thursday Night At Coggan Family Aquatic Complex

LA JOLLA, Calif. -The 13th-ranked UC San Diego men's water polo team (5-6) hosts Western Water Polo Association rival and 5th-ranked Loyola Marymount (7-2) on Thursday, September 24. The game will take place at the Coggan Family Aquatic Complex in La Jolla at 6:00 p.m. Last week the Tritons and Lions met at the Northern California tournament in Stanford. LMU jumped out to an early lead and held off a UCSD rally, defeating the Tritons by a 6-5 score. The Tritons ended up splitting four games at Stanford, defeating No. 10 Concordia and No. 18 UC Davis.

Loyola Marymount has won the last six meetings between the two schools. Three of LMU's wins came last season, although each game came down to the wire as LMU won 12-11, 15-12 in overtime and 12-10 at the WWPA Championship game.

Last week at the Northern California tournament, LMU defeated the Tritons and lost to No. 4 UCLA by a 7-3 score. Loyola Marymount went on to defeat No. 8 UC Irvine 7-6 in overtime and No. 6 UC Santa Barbara 8-5.

Earlier this season, LMU participated in the Triton Invitational with wins over Air Force 12-5, Pomona Pitzer 15-1 and Pepperdine 9-5. LMU lost to No. 1 USC by an 11-6 score.

Last year Tibor Forai led the Lions with 53 goals while Edgaras Asajavicius added 49 scores. Andy Stevens made 309 saves in goal.

Last week the Tritons were also at the Northern California tournament.

In the loss to Loyola Marymount, the Tritons were down 5-2 through three quarters. The Tritons scored three times in the fourth, holding the Lions to one goal to come up just short in the 6-5 loss. David Morton had six saves for UCSD. Sean Cruz, Steven Donohoe, Peter Gresham, Bryce Madsen and Sean Roberts scored goals for the Tritons.

In UCSD's second game of the day, the Tritons defeated No. 10 Concordia 8-7. Steven Donohoe led the Tritons with three goals while Brian Donohoe added two scores. Madsen also scored twice while Cruz added a score.
The Tritons jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first quarter, only to see Concordia shut out the Tritons in the second quarter as Concordia led 4-3 at halftime. The Tritons would outscore Concordia by one goal in the third and one goal in the fourth for the win.

In the 11th-place game, the Tritons scored early and often, taking a 5-2 lead in the first quarter. The Tritons shut out the Aggies in the second quarter and netted one score of their own to lead 6-2 at halftime. UC Davis inched closer in the third, coming within 8-5 through three. In the final period, each team would score two goals for the 10-7 final.
Brian Donohoe finished with three goals while Lohse added two scores. Ian Bausback, Steven Donohoe, Gresham, Matt Kerchner and Roberts also scored.

UCSD is led by Steven Donohoe with 27 goals scored while Cruz has added 19 goals. Brian Donohoe leads the Tritons with 16 assists while Kneif Lohse has added 13 assists. Morton has a team-high 115 saves.

Getting to Coggan Family Aquatic Complex
There are a few different ways to get to the game and your options are listed below:
1. Take an MTS bus (Route 30) down to the game:
• Go to parking services on campus (1st Floor of Gilman Parking Structure) and get a yellow bus sticker and ride for free all year long. You want to board Route 30 going southbound (Bus head sign will read Downtown) on campus at the Gilman Drive & Eucalyptus Grove Lane/Meyers Drive bus stop at 4:59 pm (bus makes a stop there roughly every 15 minutes). You will get off the bus at La Jolla Boulevard & Nautilus Street (roughly at 5:30 pm) and walk east on Nautilus to the pool on the left hand side. Return trips to campus work the same way as you travel northbound on Route 30 (Sign should read UTC/VA Hosp), boarding the bus where you got off at La Jolla Boulevard & Nautilus. 2. Take a bus provided by the UCSD Athletic Department:
• Students may board the bus at the campus loop bus stop outside of the Super Computer Center on Hopkins Dr. (Next to Hopkins Parking Structure). The bus will depart campus at 4:30 pm en route to Coggan Family Aquatic Center. A bus will load back up to return to campus after the game at roughly 7:30 pm.
