SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's soccer team lost Sunday to Cal State San Bernardino, 1-0, in a matchup between the third and fourth-place squads in the California Collegiate Athletic Association South Division.
The result drops the Tritons to 4-2-4 overall and 1-2-3 in conference action while CSUSB improves to 8-2-0 overall and 4-2-0 during CCAA play. All of UCSD's wins and losses have come at a differential of just one score.
The Tritons were involved in another defensive struggle Sunday as one goal was tallied between the two squads despite a combined 25 shots. Coyotes' junior forward Albert Cabrera struck for his seventh score of the season, knocking a breakaway shot past UCSD senior goalkeeper
Peter Akman in the 36th minute. Sophomore Brett Faggioni earned the assist on the play.
On the afternoon, Akman recorded five stops, four of which came in the first half. Each goalkeeper made just one save in the second half as the defenses tightened up and the offenses stagnated.
Senior midfielder
Kyle Parton led the Tritons in shots with three while junior forward Obi Agwu paced CSUSB with six attempts at the net.
UCSD returns home to host No. 8 Sonoma State Friday at 4:30 p.m. The Seawolves remain unbeaten in 2009 at 7-0-2 overall and 4-0-1 in the CCAA.
