WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UC San Diego setter
Elaine Chen has been named Molten/California Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 12-18, it was announced on Monday.
Chen, a senior from Walnut, Calif., directed the Tritons offense as UC San Diego posted a pair of victories over Cal Poly Pomona and previously-undefeated and second-ranked Cal State San Bernardino. The two wins moved the Tritons into a tie for first place with the Coyotes in the CCAA.
In seven sets, Chen totaled six kills on 13 attempts, posted a .400 hitting percentage, collected 73 assists, 12 digs and one block assist. Against Cal State San Bernardino, Chen had four kills, 40 assists and eight digs as the Tritons hit .268 as a team. Entering the week, the Coyotes were holding opponents to just a .134 hitting percentage.
Chen is the third Triton to earn the award as Roxanne Brunsting and Sylvia Schmidt have also earned honors.
UC San Diego is next in action on when it travels to Carson to take on Cal State Dominguez Hills.
