Sylvia Schmidt of the 2nd-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team has been named the Molten/California Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 26-31, it was announced on Monday. It marks the second time this year that she has been honored. UCSD teammates

Elaine Chen have also won the award this season. Schmidt, a senior from Cupertino, Calif., led the second-ranked Tritons to a pair of three-set road sweeps over Cal State Stanislaus and Chico State. The two wins enabled UC San Diego to remain tied atop the CCAA standings with Cal State San Bernardino.
Against Cal State Stanislaus, Schmidt totaled 19 kills without an attack error while hitting at a .500 clip. She followed that effort with another 19-kill performance against Chico State. Schmidt was flawless again as she posted a .600 hitting percentage and did not commit an attack error.
For the week, Schmidt had 38 kills, posted a .544 hitting percentage, totaled nine digs and has three blocks.
UC San Diego returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Cal State East Bay.
