WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Seven members of the UC San Diego women's soccer team earned conference honors, California Collegiate Athletic Association officials announced Thursday.
Kristin Armstrong, Lisa Bradley and Anne Wethe were named to the All-CCAA First Team while Sarah McTigue, Jessica Wi and Shelby Wong took Second Team honors. Wi was also named Co-Freshman of the Year and Ellen Wilson received honorable mention accolades as a defender.
Armstrong, a sophomore goalkeeper out of Anaheim, Calif. who backed up Jessica McGovern in 2008, has embraced the starting role this year, tallying a goals against average of 0.66 while posting six shutouts.
An All-CCAA Second Team honoree in 2008, Bradley has been consistently strong on the midfield as a captain for this season's Tritons. Wethe, who was given an honorable mention last year, has exhibited her scoring knack in 2009 with three goals and seven assists for 13 points, second on the UCSD squad.
Sophomores McTigue and Wong, with six goals apiece in 2009, are making their first appearance in the All-CCAA honors. Their combined scoring punch has been critical to the Tritons' success this season and the team's current 14-5 overall record.
Wi's wizardry around the ball, backed up by her three goals and six goals this season, earned her Second Team honors and also inclusion as Co-Freshman of the Year.
Wilson's contribution on the back line, which has also featured the strong play of Sara Spaventa and Hayley Johnson, helped her take honorable mention accolades.
The Tritons challenge Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday at 11 a.m. in the first round of the CCAA Championships, held in Turlock on the campus of Cal State Stanislaus.
