SPOKANE, Wash. - Roxanne Brunsting of the UC San Diego women's volleyball team was one of three Tritons named to the 2009 Daktronics West Region All-Star Team, it was announced on Tuesday afternoon. Brunsting earned First-Team honors after anchoring the back-row for the Tritons and also serving up a conference high 61 aces. Earning Daktronics Second-Team honors were seniors Sylvia Schmidt and Elaine Chen. The Daktronics West Region All-Star Team is voted on by Sports Information Directors from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, the California Collegiate Athletic Association and the Pacific West Conference.

The UCSD trio has now earned All-CCAA, Daktronics West Region All-Star and All-AVCA honors. Additionally, Schmidt was named the CCAA MVP.

Brunsting recorded the second highest amount of digs in school history with 494 in 2009. Her 61 aces led the Tritons and the CCAA. The Chula Vista native also had a .955 reception percentage.

Schmidt finished the year with a single-season school record of 478 kills. She also tied the single-match school-record with 31 kills against Sonoma State. Her 1,212 career kills is second in school history behind former Triton Rebecca Bailey who had 1,364 kills from 2005-08. This is Schmidt's second All-West Region AVCA team selection.

Chen had 1,273 assists this season which ranks fourth all-time at UCSD. In her career, Chen amassed 3,094 assists, the second highest mark in school history behind Teresa Ohta who had 4,749 from 2001-04. Chen also earned All-CCAA honors in each of the last two years.
