LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's swimming and diving team beat crosstown rival the University of San Diego 168.5-130.5 on Saturday afternoon at Canyonview Pool. It was the ninth consecutive time the Tritons have defeated the Toreros. The Tritons captured 11 of the 16 events, led by Alexandra Henley's three individual wins in the 200 free, 200 back and 200 IM. The Tritons won both the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay, while
Anju Shimura and
Beth Dong also won multiple events.
"I'm really happy with how we swam today," said head coach Scott McGihon. "We're starting to get into championship racing form."
"We have a longstanding rivalry with USD that the team always gets up for," continued McGihon. "We're excited anytime we can come out on the winning end and to do that nine times in a row is a testament to the consistency of our program."
The Tritons began the day with a win in the 200 medley relay as Shimura, Mercedes O'Brien, Jessica Ferguson and Katherine Tse won with a time of 1:48.11.
Dong's wins came in the 1000 free in 10:26.85, while also winning the 500 free in 5:07.88. Shimura won the 100 back in 58.36 and the 100 free in 52.38.
Henley's wins came in the 200 free in 1:52.89, the 200 back in 2:04.45 and the 200 IM in 2:09.13.
Karla Holman led a UCSD 1-2-3 finish in the 200 fly with a time of 2:09.70 and Carianne Cunningham won the 200 breast in 2:25.15.
UCSD concluded the day with a win in the 400 free relay as Shimura, Amber Tan, Tse and Ferguson won with a time of 3:30.65.
