RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's golf team returned
to action for the first time in 2010, placing third against local
competition at the San Diego Intercollegiate Classic on Tuesday at the Rancho Santa Fe Country Club.
Raj Samra was the top individual finisher for
the Tritons, placing in the top ten, as UCSD carded a two-round
total of 629. UCSD finished ten shots ahead of San Diego State's “B” team and trailed host
Point Loma Nazarene and the University of San Diego's “B” team.
The Toreros won the event with a score of 591, led by
Kenneth McCready, who shot even-par rounds of 72 to finish atop the leader
board for the event. PLNU's Oscar Casillas shot the lowest round of the
tournament with a three-under 69 in round one on the 7,035 yard course.
After tying Anubhav Rastogi for UCSD's best score in round
one at 78, Samra shot a 4-over, 76 during round two to finish in ninth-place
with a 154 total. Rastogi was the next best finisher for the Tritons, finishing
tied for 11th with a score of 157.
Keith Okasaki and Mike Neustadt tied for 16th
with scores of 80 in each round.
Richard Morris and Justin Gabbert wrapped up the day for UCSD, each
finishing with a score of 164 to tie for 20th.
Head coach Mike Wydra will lead his team back into action
during the Cal State San Marcos Invitational, taking place February 8-9 in
Bonsall.
