LA JOLLA, Calif. - As sports fans look toward the next year of university athletics, recruiting classes are continuously ranked, criticized and praised by the online experts. One incoming freshman that has caught the attention of the soccer community is Cory Wolfrom, who has committed to UC San Diego for the 2010-11 school year.
"I'm excited about becoming part of UCSD and the great education that will come with it," Wolfrom said. "I've always wanted to be a doctor and I know that the school there will lead me in a good direction. I've heard lots of good things from the coaches and the players and I'm ready to start."
Wolfrom, a senior from Yorba Linda, Calif., was listed in the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Top 100 list for high school boys' soccer players. This season, he has helped the Esperanza High School team to a 10-3-2 overall record. The Aztecs have gone 7-1 in league play. Wolfrom, a midfielder, has also played previously for the Irvine Strikers Soccer Club.
"We're excited about Cory playing for UC San Diego," Tritons' head coach Jon Pascale said. "He comes from a high-level soccer background and we believe he'll fit in well with our team on and off the field."
Wolfrom, who will graduate from Esperanza High School on June 17, is set to participate in the Orange County high school all-star game. He also competes for the Irvine Strikers, members of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy League.
The UCSD men's soccer season begins in late August.
