LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision at home Monday to No. 10 Rollins College.
The Tritons fall to 6-5 overall this season while the Tars even their record at 4-4. After a doubles sweep for Rollins, UCSD rallied to win two of the six singles matches to conclude the contest.
Sophomore Sam Ling earned a point for the Tritons at the No. 3 position, jumping out to a 6-4, 3-2 lead before his opponent, Pablo Seijo, retired due to an injury. With the victory, Ling now shares the team lead in victories with Vincent Nguyen. Ling and Nguyen have seven singles wins apiece.
Freshman Junya Yoshida continued his success at the No. 6 spot in the ladder, defeating the Tars' Constantin Sturdza Monday, 6-4, 6-1. Yoshida is now 5-1 so far in 2010.
The Tritons, ranked at No. 28 in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll, will return to action Wednesday with a 3 p.m. home match against No. 40 Western New Mexico.
