WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UC San Diego's
Casey Ryan and
Kelly Fogarty were named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the week of March 8-14, it was announced Monday by the league office.
Ryan won the high jump at the Point Loma Nazarene Invitational on Saturday, clearing 7'3.25" to easily best the field. His leap set a new school record in the event, surpassing his own standard of 7'1", which he set at the San Diego City Collegiate Championships on March 6.
With the performance, Ryan earned a NCAA automatic qualifier and also punched a ticket to the U.S. National meet, which will be held June 23-27 at Drake University.
Fogarty also had a strong showing at the PLNU Invite, winning both the 100 and 200 meters to pace the Triton sprints team. She finished with a winning time of 11.97 in the 100 and clocked in at 24.17 in the 200.
Fogarty set a school record in 200, surpassing Elisa Holiday's 2004 time of 24.24 and also took home an NCAA provisional qualifier in the event.
The Tritons are back in action this Saturday with the Point Loma Collegiate Open beginning at 10:00 a.m.
