Michael Neustadt followed suit in round two, leading the UC San Diego men's golf team to a sixth place standing after the first two rounds of the 60th Annual Southern California Intercollegiate Championship on Monday at the Mission Viejo Country Club. The Tritons carded rounds of 310 and 316 for an overall score of 626 heading into Tuesday's final round.
Behind Morris' 76 and a trio of 78's from Neustadt, Keith Okasaki, and Raj Samra, UCSD was in third place after the first 18 holes, but the Tritons would ad six strokes to that total in round two and drop three places in the standings.
Defending national champion Sonoma State has a commanding lead after the tournament's first day, carding rounds of 301 and 306 for a total score of 607. The Seawolves are 16 strokes in front of second place St. Edwards University, which shot 311 and 312 in the first two rounds to come in at 623. Cal State Dominguez Hills is third at 624 (308-316), while Washburn University (315-310) and Cal State San Bernardino (314-311) are tied for fourth at 625.
Neustadt followed his 78 in round one with a 5-over par, 76 in round two to post the Tritons' top score of the day. He is currently tied for 11th place with a two-round total of 154. Okasaki is one stroke behind at 155 (78-77), followed by Samra and Morris at 158 (78-80) and 159 (76-83), respectively.
Competing as one of three individuals for UCSD, freshman Anubhav Rastogi had the Tritons' lowest round, carding a 4-over par, 75 in round two. He finished the day at 156. Bryan Olshock shot a 163 (82-81), while Austin Alfonso concluded the day at 171 (86-85).
St. Edward's Collin Mayer sits atop the individual leaderboard after two rounds with an overall score of 2-over par, 144. Cal State Dominguez Hills' Ryan IndoVina is not far behind, wrapping up day one at 145. Both shot an opening round 71, which was the lowest individual round of the day.
The third round on the 7,143-yard, par-71 course will begin early Tuesday morning.
