OAHU, Hawaii - The UC San Diego men's tennis team finished its Hawaii trip with a win Friday, topping Hilo by a score of 8-1.
The Tritons secured a sweep in the doubles portion, before taking five of the six singles matches. At positions No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4, Sam Ling, Jake Fellow and Vincent Nguyen picked up close victories over their Vulcans' opponents.
With Friday's win, UCSD snaps a three-match losing streak and improves to 10-8 on the season. In the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll, the Tritons are ranked at No. 28 while UHH is positioned at No. 43. The two squads met two weeks ago in La Jolla and finished with the same 8-1 result.
Ling rallied for a comeback win over the Vulvans' Stephen Royalty, 5-7, 7-5 (11-9), at the No. 3 spot Monday morning. For Ling, the win marked his 11th of 2010.
The Tritons return to action on April 6 with a road match at Point Loma Nazarene.
