LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's tennis team, ranked at No. 30 nationally in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll, returns to action this week after a 10-day break from competition. Of the six matches remaining in the Tritons' regular season, all will be played outside of La Jolla.
Following a Tuesday 2 p.m. contest at crosstown rival Point Loma Nazarene, UCSD will travel to Northern California for three matches later in the week. After a 2 p.m. contest Friday at UC Davis and a Saturday match in Rohnert Park against UC Santa Cruz, the week's action will be capped off with a pivotal contest against No. 36 Sonoma State. The Tritons, currently holding a 10-8 record, are coming off a tough 1-2 trip to Hawaii where UCSD dropped two 7-2 results to No. 27 BYU-Hawaii and No. 5 Hawaii Pacific before cruising to an 8-1 win over No. 43 Hawaii Hilo.
Leading the way in UCSD's singles ladder is junior Erik Elliott, who has compiled a 7-4 mark so far in 2010. In regards to win totals so far this season in singles, Vincent Nguyen (13), Sam Ling (11) and Junya Yoshida (10) are the three Tritons currently in double figures. All three came away with victories in UCSD's latest result, an 8-1 win over Hawaii Hilo on March 26.
