No. 15 Tritons Aim to Continue Conference Dominance with Two Home Matches This Week

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The No. 15 UC San Diego women's tennis team, carrying a winning streak of 65 matches within the California Collegiate Athletic Association, will look to continue its conference dominance when it hosts No. 25 Cal Poly Pomona and No. 31 Cal State L.A. this week.

The Tritons, 10-4 overall and 6-0 in the CCAA this season, are scheduled to play eight matches in the final 19 days of the regular season. That stretch begins Wednesday with a 2 p.m. home contest against CPP. UCSD will finish its homestand with an 11 a.m. match on Saturday with CSULA.

Going with a different lineup this past Saturday, the Tritons came up with yet another league win in the 7-2 home result over Cal State San Bernardino.

Leading the way for the Tritons was sophomore Samantha Yeung, who recorded her team-high 10th victory of 2010 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over CSUSB's Brittany Choate at the No. 1 singles position.

Wednesday's opponent for UCSD, Cal Poly Pomona, holds an overall record of 11-5 this season and rebounded from two straight losses to defeat Sonoma State, 6-3, this past Saturday. The Tritons and Broncos met in Pomona just last week and in that match, the Tritons tallied a 6-3 victory.

UCSD's Saturday challenger, Cal State L.A., currently stands at 7-7 overall and 2-4 in conference play. In the midst of a long string of nine road matches, the Golden Eagles will take on CSUSB on Wednesday before traveling to La Jolla for Saturday's 11 a.m. match. The Tritons dealt CSULA an 8-1 defeat on Feb. 28, a contest that featured a doubles sweep for the Tritons.
