LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's tennis team will play its final regular season match on Wednesday, as the Tritons challenge UC Riverside on the road at 12 p.m.
UCSD, 12-10 overall on the season, are likely in line for a spot in the NCAA Division II postseason. With the top four teams from the West advancing to the regional tournament, the current Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll ranks Hawaii Pacific at No. 1 and BYU-Hawaii, UCSD and Sonoma State following behind in the final three spots.
The Tritons have gone 8-3 in 2010 against in-region D-II opponents, including a 7-2 road win last Thursday over the fifth-ranked team in the West, Cal Poly Pomona. Having defeated CPP on March 2 by the same score, last week's result wrapped up the sweep of the season series for UCSD.
Wednesday's match also serves as the regular season finale for the home squad, UCR. The Tritons and Highlanders were originally scheduled to play their match in February but the contest was postponed because of inclement weather. UCR stands at 3-16 overall and 0-5 in league play. The Highlanders compete in the Division I Big West Conference.
