Weather Cuts Regular Season Short; UC San Diego Awaits April 28 Selection Show

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's tennis team expected one final tuneup before the NCAA postseason but because of rain forcing the cancellation of Wednesday's road match with UC Riverside, the Tritons will have to go without that last regular season contest.

UCSD ends the regular season at 12-10 overall, including 8-3 against in-region Division II opponents. Leading the Tritons with double figure win totals in singles were junior Vincent Nguyen (15-6), freshman Junya Yoshida (14-3) and sophomore Sam Ling (12-7). At the top of the ladder for UCSD is junior Erik Elliott, who tallied a 9-6 mark.

The Tritons will now await the announcement of the NCAA Division II Championship field, will be disclosed on the NCAA.com selection show at 4 p.m. on April 28.

The top four teams out of the West will advance to the regional stage of the tournament. In the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll, Hawaii Pacific ranked No. 1 with BYU-Hawaii, UCSD and Sonoma State positioned at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 respectively.
