WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UC San Diego sophomore Samantha Yeung received the Penn/California Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Tennis Player of the Week honor for the week of April 12-18, conference officials announced Wednesday. It marks the second time this season Yeung has earned the award.
Yeung, who hails from Calabasas, Calif., finished a perfect 5-0 last week with three singles wins and two doubles victories. The sophomore capped off the conference season with a dominating defeat of Cal State Stanislaus' Erin McGurty at the No. 6 position Saturday, 6-2, 6-4. The victory helped UC San Diego to its seventh-straight CCAA title, as the Tritons recorded a 9-1 league mark in 2010.
Earlier in the week, Yeung tallied both singles and doubles wins over Cal State San Bernardino and Point Loma Nazarene. She now has a singles record of 14-5 this season, including a 9-1 mark within the conference.
The Tritons return to action Saturday when they travel to play Cal State Northridge at 12:30 p.m.
