SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Due to field conditions at Coyote Softball Park being unplayable for Friday, the schedule for the series between UC San Diego and Cal State San Bernardino has been altered. UCSD and CSUSB will now start their four-game set with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 12 p.m. The two teams will then conclude the series Sunday with two games also starting at 12 p.m.
The Tritons and Coyotes, separated by a half game in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings, are playing for a spot in the conference tournament and potentially, also a bid for the NCAA Division II postseason. UCSD is currently 28-18 overall and 18-14 within the CCAA, which puts the Tritons in a tie for fourth place with Humboldt State.
The 2010 CCAA Softball Championships, to be held in Stockton, Calif., will run from April 30 to May 2. The top four teams from the regular season earn a spot in the tournament.
The Coyotes (25-25, 17-14 CCAA) started April strong, taking two of three from Chico State and three of four from Sonoma State. Continuing its homestand last weekend, CSUSB couldn't keep the momentum going and dropped three of four to Cal State Dominguez Hills. In the all-time series with UCSD, the Coyotes hold a 38-37 advantage over the Tritons.
