WOODLAND, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's volleyball team had three student-athletes named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Conference teams, it was announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Jason Spangler and
Phil Bannan were each selected to the All-Honorable Mention squad while redshirt freshman
Cyrus Kiani was named to the MPSF All-Freshman Team. The Tritons finished the year with an 11-19 record, including two wins each over Pacific, UCLA and Pepperdine.
The 2010 MPSF Player of the Year went to Brad Lawson of Stanford while the Freshman of the Year went to Hawaii's Jonas Umlauft. The MPSF Coach of the Year went to Stanford's John Kosty.
Spangler earns his second All-MPSF award, being named all-conference after his sophomore season in 2008. Spangler finished the year second on the team with 348 kills and 19 service aces. His 1,491 career kills and 84 service aces ranked as the top marks in UCSD history
Bannan also earns his second all-conference honor, after being named to the team as a sophomore in 2009. The junior setter had 1,265 assists and helped UCSD hit at a .283 team percentage. Bannan also added 1.47 digs per set and 0.59 blocks per set.
Kiani was a force in his first season at middle blocker. The redshirt freshman averaged 2.19 kills per set on .415 hitting with 0.81 blocks per set.
