NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision Saturday to Cal State Northridge as the Tritons continue postseason preparation with matchups against tough Division I competition.
The Tritons fall to 13-7 overall this season while CSUN, a member of the Big West Conference, improves to 12-7 in 2010.
The closest matches on the day for UCSD came at the No. 2 and No. 6 singles positions in the ladder. At No. 2, junior Natalie Varnay collected a win in the first set against the Matadors' Brooke Doane but in the second set she was forced to retire because of illness. In the No. 6 position, sophomore Samantha Yeung held tough in a three-set contest with CSUN's Maria Pistalu but ultimately fell, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
The Tritons will conclude their regular season with a match Monday at 2 p.m. against crosstown rival San Diego State.
