SAN DIEGO - The UC San Diego women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss Monday to crosstown foe San Diego State, a squad ranked 75th nationally at the Division I level.

The match ended the regular season for both teams, with the Tritons falling to 13-8 and the Aztecs improving to 13-10. UCSD will now await Wednesday's selection show for the NCAA D-II Championships field. The announcement will be broadcast on NCAA.com at 4 p.m. Wednesday and the top four teams in the West Region advance to the tournament, which begins May 8.

In the April 21 regional rankings released by the NCAA, BYU-Hawaii holds the No. 1 spot while Hawaii Pacific, UCSD and Cal State Stanislaus follow behind at the remaining three positions.

During Monday's match with SDSU, the Tritons dropped straight-set losses in all six singles matches and only managed to capture five games combined between the three doubles contests.

Junior Valerie Tang turned out to be most victorious in singles' games among the UCSD players Monday, falling 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot to Roxanna Ellison.

In doubles, the Tritons' Anita Athavale and Jacquelyn Davis fared the best in number of games won, dropping a 8-3 decision at the No. 2 position to Julia Wais and Julia Trunk.
