Okasaki Cards 78 In Opening Round of Central/West Regional

PALM DESERT, Calif. - UC San Diego's Keith Okasaki shot a 78 in the opening round of the NCAA Division II West/Central Regional at the Classic Club in Palm Desert on Monday. Okasaki is currently tied for 68th place individually, nine strokes off the lead with two rounds to play.

A junior from Sacramento, Okasaki finished the day tied with eight other competitors at +6 on the par-72, 7,100-yard course.

Cal State Stanislaus' Trevor Blair and Gordon Webb of Western New Mexico are tied atop the individual leaderboard at 69 after one round. Ryan Indovina of Cal State Dominguez Hills, David Schroeder of Fort Lewis and Jeremy Wendelken of Sonoma State are all tied for third at 70.

No. 16 Western Washington leads the way after shooting a 3-over par, 291, as a total of four strokes separate the top four teams in the field. WWU has a one-shot lead over No. 5 Chico State (292), while Western New Mexico is third at 293 and defending national champion and 20th-ranked Sonoma State sits in fourth at 294.

The 54-hole Regional competition continues with the second round on Tuesday beginning at 7:30 a.m.
