Okasaki At +12 After Two Rounds In Palm Desert

PALM DESERT, Calif. - After shooting a second consecutive 78, UC San Diego's Keith Okasaki is currently tied for 76th place two rounds into the NCAA Division II Central/West Regional being contested at the Classic Club in Palm Desert. Representing the Tritons as an individual, Okasaki wrapped up the day at +12, 16 strokes off the lead.

Okasaki was nine strokes back after the first round on Monday, but the Sacramento native was unable to lower his round two tally and slipped further down in the standings. He is one of five individuals currently sitting at 156 for the tournament.

Chico State's Brandon Harkins, who was tied for sixth place following an opening round 71, carded a 69 on Tuesday to claim a share of the lead at -4, 140. He is tied with Gordon Webb of Western New Mexico, who shot a 71 in round two.

Kyle Souza of Chico State is third at 141, while Sonoma State's Ryan Carter is fourth at 142. Both players turned in 69s on the day.

Led by the strong pay of Harkins, fifth-ranked Chico State shot a 3-under par, 285 Tuesday to take over first place in the team standings. The Wildcats were just one shot back entering the second round and carry a two stroke lead over second place Sonoma State at 577 into the final day. The Seawolves also shot a 285 on Tuesday and hold a two-round total of 579.

Western New Mexico is third at 582 (289), while Cal State Monterey Bay is fourth at 592 (293).

The third and final round is set to tee off Wednesday at 7:30 a.m.
