LOS ANGELES - Competing for the last time before the NCAA National Championships in two weeks, UC San Diego had a handful of student-athletes looking to improve their marks at the Cal State L.A. Last Chance Qualifier on Saturday. While the day didn't end with any guarantees, the Tritons still had several noteworthy performances in Los Angeles.
Looking to solidify her position in both of her events, senior Leah Murphy won the long jump and placed second overall in the triple jump. She posted marks of 18'3.25" and 38'3.5" in the two events, respectively.
Sophomore Caitlin Meagher had UCSD's other win on the day, besting the field in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 63.17.
Marie Archer was competing for the Triton throws squad and finished third in the women's hammer throw with a toss of 158'10", while Fred Cook took part in the men's hammer and also finished third at 159'9".
Also in action on Saturday were Marie Schaper in the women's 1,500 meters and Anna Lee McGregor in the 400. Schaper placed fourth with a time of 4:47.97, while McGregor finished 10th at 61.28.
The Division II National Championships are scheduled for May 27-29 at Johnson C. Smith University's Irwin Belk Complex in Charlotte, North Carolina. UCSD is now awaiting the final NCAA acceptance list, which is due out early next week.
