WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Juniors Taskeen Bains and Cindy Dao of the UC San Diego women's tennis team earned All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors for their performances during the 2010 season, league officials announced Wednesday.
Both players showed versatility in the singles and doubles formats during 2010 and helped the Tritons to their seventh-straight conference title this season. The final match of the CCAA slate pitted two 8-1 teams against each other - UCSD and No. 19 Cal State Stanislaus. The Tritons prevailed on their home court, 6-3, to emerge victorious in the conference once again.
Bains, of Cupertino, Calif., owns a career records of 26-19 in singles 33-26 in doubles. Competing out of the No. 1 singles position for the first time in her career, Bains compiled a 5-13 overall record in 2010 while going 3-5 in league play. She also totaled a 10-9 doubles record while partnering mostly with teammate Natalie Varnay. This season marks the second time Bains has earned league honors, after she was included on the All-CCAA First Team in 2009.
A Claremont, Calif., native, Dao is receiving conference honors for the first time in her Triton career, in which she has tallied records of 18-14 in singles and 24-15 in doubles. She split time between the No. 2 and No. 3 positions in the singles ladder during 2010 and compiled an overall singles record of 8-9, including a stellar 6-2 mark within the CCAA. Also strong in doubles, Dao paired with Valerie Tang to go 5-2 in league play.
UCSD's 2010 campaign came to an end on May 6 with a 5-1 loss in the NCAA Tournament to No. 11 Hawaii Pacific.
