LA JOLLA, Calif. - Camille Gaito, Kris Lesovsky and Nicole Saari of the UC San Diego softball team earned spots on the Daktronics Division II All-West Region First Team, officials announced Thursday after a vote by the region's sports information directors.
The trio helped the Tritons to a 30-20 mark in the 2010 season, which stands as the highest winning percentage (.600) in the program history of UCSD softball since the 2001 campaign brought a 34-17 record (.667).
This is the second-straight year that Gaito and Lesovsky received Daktronics honors. The three selections in 2010 represent the largest amount of First Team picks for the Tritons at the D-II level for this All-Region squad.
Gaito made impressive strides as a sophomore in 2010 and managed to top her stellar freshman campaign. Totaling 182 innings, she finished as the only California Collegiate Athletic Association pitcher with a sub-1.00 earned run average (0.96), a mark that ranked seventh nationally. The San Rafael native also posted eight shutouts, the 14th-best total at the D-II level.
Lesovsky, after being named a Louisville Slugger/NFCA and Daktronics All-American in 2009, carried UCSD's offense yet again in 2010. The junior centerfielder led the CCAA in most of the major offensive categories, including batting average (.413), on-base percentage (.486), slugging percentage (.738) and total bases (118), not to mention a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000.
Saari completed her four-year career on the La Jolla campus with her best season yet, a 2010 campaign in which the catcher from Roseville, Calif., ranked second on the Tritons' squad in hitting (.371), doubles (11), runs batted in (27), total bases (69), on-base percentage (.425) and slugging percentage (.457). Her defensive prowess did not go unnoticed, as she recorded a .992 fielding percentage that keeps her career mark at third all-time in the UCSD record books.
