STARKVILLE, Miss. - Individual honors continue to pile up for the UC San Diego softball trio of Kris Lesovsky, Camille Gaito and Nicole Saari, following the Tritons posting an overall record of 30-20 in 2010. In the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II All-West Region squads released Thursday, Lesovsky earned a spot on the First Team while Gaito and Saari were placed on the Second Team.
NFCA member coaches in each of the eight regions select the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Region teams and all honorees are now eligible to be selected to one of three All-American teams.
After transferring from Florida Tech, Lesovsky recorded the highest single season batting average (.446) in the program history of UCSD softball en route to being named a Louisville Slugger/NFCA and Daktronics All-American in 2009 as a sophomore. Turning the page to 2010, the Simi Valley native put together another dominating season as the conference leader in most of the major offensive categories, including batting average (.413), on-base percentage (.486), slugging percentage (.738) and total bases (118). She also starred defensively in centerfield, compiling a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000.
A native of San Rafael, Calif., Gaito is the only pitcher in the conference to hold an earned run average under one (0.96) and leads the league in innings pitched with 182. Her ERA ranks seventh nationally at the Division II level and her eight shutouts on the season rank 14th. Between Feb. 13 and Feb. 27, Gaito strung together 34-straight scoreless innings in guiding the Tritons through the early stages of the California Collegiate Athletic Association schedule.
Saari concluded her UCSD career with an impressive senior campaign and earns Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Region honors for the second-straight season. Ranked third all-time in fielding percentage on the Tritons' leaderboard with a .991 mark, Saari put together another strong year behind the plate by fielding .992 in 2010. She ranked second on the UCSD squad in hitting (.371), doubles (11), runs batted in (27), total bases (69), on-base percentage (.425) and slugging percentage (.457).
Previously in 2010, all three players were included on the All-CCAA First Team and the Daktronics All-West Region First Team.
The 2010 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American teams will be announced at the 2010 NCAA Banquet of Champions at the Fulkerson Center on the campus of Missouri Western University in St. Joseph, Mo., on Wednesday night, May 26.
