ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Kris Lesovsky of the UC San Diego softball team earned All-American honors for the second-straight season in 2010, National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) officials announced Wednesday night during the NCAA Banquet of Champions at Missouri Western State's Fulkerson Center.
The junior from Simi Valley, Calif., was selected to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Second Team after putting together another impressive year at the plate and in the field.
"We're fortunate to have a leadoff hitter that can get on base five times out of 10," UCSD head coach Patti Gerckens said. "She's so good at setting the pace of the game. Kris stays humble and with all the things she brings to the team, you can't ask for a better player."
After transferring from Florida Tech, Lesovsky recorded the highest single season batting average (.446) in the program history of UCSD softball en route to being named a Louisville Slugger/NFCA and Daktronics First Team All-American in 2009 as a sophomore.
Turning the page to 2010, Lesovsky put together another dominating season as the conference leader in most of the major offensive categories, including batting average (.413), on-base percentage (.486), slugging percentage (.738) and total bases (118). She also starred defensively in centerfield, compiling a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000.
Lesovsky is the first Triton to win the award two times at the D-II level. Amy Mettee earned the D-II honor in 2002 and at the Division III level, Erin Bridges was selected to the team in 2000 while Dianne Moreno earned All-American status in both 1989 and 1991.
Earlier in May, the Triton trio of Lesovsky, Camille Gaito and Nicole Saari was featured on the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-West Region squads. UCSD finished the 2010 campaign with an overall record of 30-20.
