Lesovsky, Gaito Featured in Daktronics All-America Announcement

LA JOLLA, Calif. - Just hours after receiving Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Second Team honors in a vote of collegiate coaches, Kris Lesovsky of the UC San Diego softball team earned a spot on the Daktronics All-America Second Team decided by sports information directors across the country.

Another Triton, sophomore Camille Gaito, received honorable mention accolades in the Daktronics announcement Thursday afternoon.

The top pitcher for the nation's top-ranked team and a third baseman who ranks among the national leaders in several categories head up the Daktronics All-America First Team, as North Georgia pitcher Sarah Phillips was selected as the Ron Lenz national "Pitcher of the Year" and Emporia State's Miranda Campbell, a three-time selection to the All-America squad, was named the Ron Lenz national "Player of the Year.

Lesovsky led the California Collegiate Athletic Association in most of the major offensive categories, including batting average (.413), on-base percentage (.486), slugging percentage (.738) and total bases (118), not to mention a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000. She had 10 homeruns on the season while batting mostly out of the leadoff spot in the UCSD lineup. This marks the second-consecutive season in which the Simi Valley native has earned selection to both the Louisville Slugger/NFCA and the Daktronics All-America squads.

Hailing from San Rafael, Calif., Gaito was the only pitcher in the conference to hold an earned run average under one (0.96). Her ERA ended up as the third-best mark nationally at the Division II level and her eight shutouts on the season rank 23rd. Now at the midway point in her UCSD career, Gaito's 1.33 ERA across her freshman and sophomore years currently sits at No. 4 in the all-time Triton leaderboard.

UCSD finished 2010 with an overall record of 30-20, as the .600 winning percentage represents the highest mark in program history since 2001 (.667).
