CARY, N.C - The top-ranked UC San Diego baseball team will square off with No. 9 Southern Indiana in Saturday's NCAA Division II National Championship game at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary.

After losing a 3-0 decision to third-ranked Georgia College & State on Thursday, USI bounced back to defeat the Bobcats 3-2 in the rematch on Friday to advance to Saturday's title game. The Screaming Eagles trailed 2-0, but rallied for two runs in the fifth before scoring the eventual winning run in the seventh.

Southern Indiana enters Saturday's championship tilt with an overall record of 51-14. Winners of 14 of their last 16 overall, the Screaming Eagles will be making the program's first appearance in the final game.

UCSD will also be appearing in the title game for the first time. The Tritons enter Saturday's matchup with an overall record of 54-7, having gone 9-1 in the postseason thus far, including a perfect 6-0 mark in NCAA Tournament play.

The Tritons, who won back-to-back CCAA Tournament and West Regional Championships to return to Cary for the second straight season, defeated No. 4 Georgia College 3-2 on Saturday, took down No. 3 Central Missouri 2-1 in 11 innings on Monday, and then eliminated No. 13 Franklin Pierce with a 6-3 triumph on Thursday.

Saturday's contest will mark the first-ever meeting between UCSD and Southern Indiana.

The game will crown the first champion not from the South or Southeast Regions since 2001. The UCSD-USI matchup also marks the third consecutive year the championship has featured two teams that have never reached the title game. Mount Olive College defeated Ouachita Baptist in 2008, while Lynn outlasted Emporia State last season.

The game will be televised live on CBS College Sports and on NCAA.com. First pitch is set for 9:07 a.m. PDT.
