CHARLOTTE, N.C. – There was a lot of sitting and waiting on day two of the 2010 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, as most of the scheduled events were delayed due to lighting in the Charlotte area.
UC San Diego did get a good result in one of the few completed events, as junior sprinter Kelly Fogarty qualified for the finals in the 200-meter dash with a school record time of 23.96. Good enough for sixth place overall, Fogarty's time eclipsed her previous best of 24.12 that came at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational in April.
Fogarty will now compete in the finals of both the 100 and 200 after qualifying in the shorter event on Thursday in 11.75. Both races are scheduled for Saturday evening.
The heptathlon wrapped up on Friday as well, with junior Stephanie LeFever finishing 14th. Sitting in 12th place after four events, she placed ninth in the long jump (18'3.25"), 13th in the javelin (91'7"), and 15th in the 800-meters (2:28.13).
Several Tritons were still scheduled to compete when the events were halted Friday evening. Casey Ryan was still in at 6'9" in the men's high jump final, while Donna LeFever was taking part in the finals of the women's pole vault.
Daniel Anderson (800), Christine Merrill (100 hurdles), and the women's 4x400 relay team have yet to compete in the preliminaries.
Friday's remaining events were rescheduled for Saturday morning starting at 7:00 a.m. PDT.
